WWE Purchasing Indy Promotions?

– WWE made some noise earlier in the week as superstars under contract to NXT UK can no longer work with other promotions; with the exceptions being ICW, PROGRESS Wrestling and wXw as they have a working relationship that helped create the new brand. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is a clause that gives WWE permission to purchase those three companies.

The decision would not have to made be right away, as the current deal is set for the next several years. If WWE uses their option to purchase at least one of the wrestling companies, it is expected to go for somewhere in the high six figures. The longer WWE waits, the odds of the price going up also increases.

Once purchased, WWE could slowly fold the promotion to avoid competing against themselves or they could use the company as a developmental system before wrestlers head to NXT UK or another WWE brand. It will be interesting to see if WWE tries to the same method as they try to expand into other countries.

Survivor Series is considered one of WWE’s Big Four shows, yet there was almost no fallout from the event. During the Wrestling Oberver Radio, Dave Meltzer noted how the show was not done to further many storylines.

“I was told before Survivor Series is that you have to go in with the idea that it doesn’t count and that everything goes back to normal after,” said Meltzer.

Only days before the show, several major changes were made. Becky Lynch was replaced by Charlotte Flair after suffering a broken nose and concussion on RAW. Also, Daniel Bryan turned heel and captured the WWE Championship; thus allowing him to wrestle Brock Lesnar.

Despite WWE not making a bigger deal about the show, Charlotte lost to Ronda Rousey via disqualification and turned heel in the process. Lesnar mostly manhandled Bryan, who worked as a face, before getting the win. The other big takeaway was SmackDown losing all their matches on the main card.
