Toyota Promises New Truck to Man Who Risked His Life in Wildfires

“Allyn Pierce oversees the Intensive Care Unit at a hospital in Paradise, California where recent wildfires have wreaked havoc over the past several days,” reported The Drive. “Pierce and his colleagues are now being praised for working diligently to ensure the safety of their patients, going as far as destroying the nurse’s Toyota Tundra in the process of transporting people to safety.”

Kudos to Toyota for doing something really wonderful for a hero that deserves it.

Seeing the damage done to the nurse’s truck, the car company then made a kind offer.

“Much to everyone’s surprise, the official Toyota account on social media is claiming it will offer Pierce a new Tundra for his heroic actions,” The Drive said.

“Here’s my Toyota commercial. This truck literally saved my life today,” wrote Pierce on Facebook.

“My little town of Paradise was literally burning down around me and @the_pandra got me to safety where I could help others…twice,” he said.

Then, a comment he never expected was left on Pierce’s Facebook post.

“Hi Allyn, we are humbled you’d risk your life and Toyota Tundra to drive people to safety,” Toyota wrote. “Don’t worry about the truck, we’re honored to get you a new one!”

Good on Toyota – because this man certainly deserves it.

Pierce literally drove through fire to carry people to safety, directly going through the flames twice.

On the second try, things got scary.

Apparently, the Tundra eventually got stuck in traffic and couldn’t move. The vehicles around Pierce were evacuated or abandoned. The driverless cars created a situation in which the nurse could not move forward to escape the flames.

At that point, Pierce says he did not expect to survive.

He accepted that he might not make it and recorded a message to his family on his phone. Pierce then turned on the radio to Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” as the fire began to reach the passenger side of his truck. He turned on the radio to calm himself down.

You can see how the flames melted parts of Pierce’s Tundra, including the tail lights and mirrors.

“We’re terrible at burning to death. But we’re amazing at taking care of people,” Pierce said as he laughed.

It’s amazing he’s alive and can be lighthearted about what he went through and Toyota was right to reward his uniquely unselfish and brave heroism.
