taylor swift phil bredesen endorsement

A few weeks ago, pop singer Taylor Swift decided to enter the political realm for the first time by endorsing
Democrat Phil Bredesen in his race against Republican Marsha Blackburn for the Tennessee Senate seat. Swift cockily assumed that her endorsement would encourage her young fans to vote for Bredesen and would tip the scales in his favor on Election Day, but she turned out to be dead wrong.

Fox News reported that Blackburn beat Bredesen comfortably on Tuesday with 55% of the vote compared to his 43%. Though she had been behind him in the polls all summer, she took the lead over him a month ago and never gave it up, despite Swift’s endorsement of him. Blackburn was still able to beat Bredesen even with Swift taking to social media once again last week to tell the world that she had voted for the Democrat.

“These two Tennessee women voted for the candidate who has proven himself to be reasonable and trustworthy,” Swift wrote alongside a photo of herself and her mother posing with a Bredesen campaign sign. “We want leadership, not fear-based extremism. Early voting goes til Thursday and Election Day is November 6. Please don’t sit this one out.”

It’s safe to say that Swift’s foray into politics has officially blown up in her face. Before her endorsement of Bredesen, Swift was one of the only mainstream musical artists in this country who did not preach about politics and urge her fans to vote liberal. This was refreshing to the conservative fans who brought Swift to the top of the charts during her days as a country music singer. It was these conservative fans who got Swift to where she is today, and by endorsing a Democrat, all she has accomplished is alienating them by showing that she is now just another mindless Hollywood liberal sheep.

Like most leftwing celebrities, Swift is so full of herself that she assumed that her endorsement would change the course of this election in the Democrats’ favor. We’re glad to see that she is learning just how wrong she was!
