WWE Champion AJ Styles comes out to the ring to cut a promo ahead of his match against Universal Champion Brock Lesnar on Sunday. As he’s talking, Lesnar’s advocate Paul Heyman shows up and hops on a mic. Heyman says there’s no one Lesnar wants to fight more at Survivor Series than Styles himself. This is because Lesnar considers Styles one of the greatest all-time performers in the history of the business, up there with the likes of Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat and “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels.

Heyman says it will be an honor for him to be ringside to watch his client face the “2nd” greatest in-ring performer of all time… Styles says he sees what Heyman is trying to do. Styles remembers what happened last year at Survivor Series, but in the last 371 days since then, Styles has become better. Lesnar, on the other hand, has become more vulnerable. This Sunday will be about “the face that runs the place”, “the champ that runs the camp”, “A-J-STYLES!” At this, Daniel Bryan comes out to the ring.

Bryan picks a fight with Styles and ends up attacking Styles for no reason. They scrap and Smackdown Commissioner Shane McMahon runs out with some officials to break up the melee. Shane tells Bryan to calm down and orders officials to take him backstage. Styles talks trash as he is held back.

Backstage and there is much commotion as Styles and Bryan continue to beef and Shane McMahon, yelling himself hoarse, announces that the WWE Championship will be on the line in a match between the two tonight.

After the match, Randy Orton tries to come sailing in with an RKO on Rey, but Rey evades and knocks Orton with a shot. Orton stumbles back into Miz and plants him with the RKO instead. Rey makes his escape from the ringside area, and a red-faced, angry Orton snarls bitterly after him.

Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch comes out to address her removal from Sunday’s co-brand champion vs. champion match against Ronda Rousey. Becky says she’s angry as hell right now. She took a good beating last night, but that’s never stopped her before. Unfortunately, the medical staff seem to have other ideas. Becky says she had Rousey locked in the Disarm Her and had her tapping out. And even with a concussion and a broken nose, Becky says she’d “still kick Ronda’s ass.”

Becky now has to pick her replacement for the match against Rousey. She chooses Charlotte Flair and asks her to go tap Rousey out the way she’d intended to. They shake hands, and then hug, before Becky leaves, holding the belt above her head.

Charlotte is interviewed and she says she’s excited to face Ronda Rousey this Sunday.

WWE Championship Match: AJ Styles (c) vs. Daniel Bryan

Bell sounds and Styles comes out aggressively. Bryan fires back but then gets backdropped out to the floor. Styles slingshots with a forearm that cracks Bryan out on the floor. Commercial break.

Back again and Bryan goes on the offensive as he works on Styles’ arm. He knocks Styles into the ring-post and then they roll back in the ring, where Bryan executes various attacks on Styles’ arm. Styles lands a few shots of his own and they go back and forth. Styles lands a combo and then a jumping shot in the corner. They scramble and both hit the ropes, flying toward and colliding with each other in midair. Both men are down. Commercial break.

Back again and Bryan sets Styles up on the top turnbuckle. He delivers a Frankensteiner for a near-fall. Bryan climbs to the top but Styles heads him off and goes up with Bryan. They fight over the position and Styles is forced to step down, but then he clocks Bryan with a pele kick. Styles starts to set something up on the top rope but Bryan sneaks out the backdoor and hangs Styles upside down. Bryan lands some running kicks and then he connects with a belly-to-back superplex for another near-fall.

Styles starts getting back in it and goes for a springboard 450 splash but Bryan gets his knees up and then slaps on a Yes Lock. Styles fights it and gets to the bottom rope. Styles counters and locks on a Calf Crusher, but Bryan transitions into an armbar, then another Yes Lock. Styles slithers his way out and hits a catapult, as Bryan’s face strikes the turnbuckle. Styles goes for a Phenomenal Forearm but Bryan moves and Styles bumps the referee. Bryan, suddenly and behind the ref’s back, delivers a low-blow to Styles.

Bryan’s face takes on a different character as he considers the nature of his actions. The referee comes to and Bryan delivers his Running Knee for the pinfall. Bryan has turned heel and is the new WWE Champion.

Winner: Daniel Bryan (c)

After the match, Bryan brutally assaults the helpless Styles as the crowd boos. Bryan grins maniacally as the show closes.
