Debra Messing Condemns Women’s March Leaders

On Friday, “Will & Grace” star Debra Messing joined actress Alyssa Milano in standing up to anti-Semitism, condemning leaders of the Women’s March with connections to the Nation of Islam’s (NOI) Louis Farrakhan.

Messing joins Milano in saying she will not speak at the third annual march scheduled for January and making her announcement by tweeting out an article from The Advocate.

“I stand with you @Alyssa_Milano,” read Messing’s tweet.

“Any time that there is any bigotry or anti-Semitism in that respect, it needs to be called out and addressed”

While anyone should denounce the apparent anti-Semites associated with the Women’s March, Messing is Jewish and obviously wanted to make her stance clearly known.

Milano–the woman responsible for launching the “Me Too” movement by encouraging women who’ve ever been assaulted to tweet those words with a hashtag–is not happy about the connection between march organizers Tamika Mallory, Linda Sarsour, and Carmen Perez with the NOI.

“Any time that there is any bigotry or anti-Semitism in that respect, it needs to be called out and addressed. I’m disappointed in the leadership of the Women’s March that they haven’t done it adequately,” Milano told The Advocate. “I would say no at this point. Unfortunate that none of them have come forward against him at this point. Or even given a really good reason why to support them.”

Milano has called on these march leaders to denounce Farrakhan.

In addition to the Farrakhan connection, Sarsour has criticized the Democratic Party for supporting Israel. Mallory has openly championed Farrakhan and attended an event earlier this year where the anti-Semitic preacher compared Jews to the spawn of Satan.

As Milano–and now Messing–have condemned Mallory, Sarsour continues to defend her.

“I don’t think these people have our best interests at heart to make us better people or to disrupt misconceptions or anti-Semitism because trashing a strong black woman and holding her accountable for the words of a man is not the way to bring people together,” Mallory said.

“The words of a man” is Mallory’s excuse for sidestepping Farrakhan’s explicit anti-Semitism? That’s rich.

In addition to her activism, Messing, or “Grace,” can be seen again in the Season 2 reboot of NBC’s hit show “Will & Grace.”

Whatever one thinks of the Women’s March or Alyssa Milano and Debra Messing’s politics, these two women are unquestionably doing the right thing here. Will others on the left step up to condemn this blatant hate? Stay tuned.
