Conor McGregor Releases First Statement Since UFC 229 Loss

Former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor didn’t get the chance to say anything after UFC 229 Saturday night.

McGregor tapped to a neck crank applied by Khabib Nurmagomedov in their main event from Las Vegas. What happened after left both fighters being escorted out of the arena and into the backstage area.

Nurmagomedov went after members of McGregor’s fight team, while teammates of the UFC lightweight champion stormed the Octagon to attack McGregor. It was a nasty mark on an event that was widely viewed and followed.

During the post-fight press conference, Nurmagomedov attended and released a statement, but McGregor did not. Instead, he posted a simple message on Twitter.

“Good knock,” he wrote. “Looking forward to the rematch.”

The loss was the second in the UFC career for McGregor, adding to a submission defeat he suffered vs. Nate Diaz. “Notorious” returned from that setback to claim a majority decision over Diaz in the rematch.
