Judge Grants Restraining Order in Family Battle Over Tim Conway’s Care

Tim Conway’s daughter has won the initial battle of conservatorship over the legendary funny man. A judge has granted his daughter Kelly a restraining order against Conway’s wife Charlene in a battle over who controls his care.

“The Carol Burnett Show” actor is reported to be “almost unresponsive” due to dementia. Kelly filed in court to be appointed the conservator of her father as she was concerned that her stepmother would move him to another facility where he would not get the same level of care. Since there is now a restraining order, Charlene won’t be able to move Conway until a judge makes a final determination on the matter.

“My brothers and I are extremely happy that the plan to move our dad by his wife has been temporarily stopped by a court order,” Kelly stated. “We are grateful to the judge for taking this matter seriously by considering all the evidence before making a decision. We appreciate the overwhelming support and love we have received from my dad’s friends and fans.”

Conway has been appointed an attorney as he has sadly lost the ability to speak. This battle for his care is obviously an emotional and stressful one. Charlene states she has “no intention of moving her husband from his current care provider,” leaving many to wonder why Kelly filed to block a move that wasn’t even happening.

Conway’s wife also claims that Kelly violated HIPPA laws and his medical privacy according to court documents obtained from The Blast. Kelly allegedly snuck a doctor into the facility when she knew Charlene would not be there. This doctor was not familiar with Conway’s situation and didn’t have the authority to assess the actor. Kelly’s doctor also didn’t sign into the facility upon arrival and only used Kelly’s “fabricated facts” when he should have “interviewed the one person who would know Tim’s issues best: his wife of 34 years, Charlene.”

Tim and Charlene’s friends Bob and Ginnie Newhart made a public statement of support for Charlene as this case continues in the court. Bob tweeted this so Tim’s fans could see it.

This is a terribly sad situation. This family is battling in court as Tim Conway’s life nears the end. It appears both Charlene and Kelly want Tim to remain in his current facility. This is a family that could certainly use our prayers.

Conway entertained us for years on “The Carol Burnett Show.” He was well known for going off script and making his castmates laugh. Harvey Korman often proved to be an easy target as he had trouble keeping a straight face when Conway would get going. Fans will remember the skit below where Conway was Korman’s dentist. Conway later revealed that Korman laughed so hard that he wet his pants!
