Princess Diana was very much aware of her husband’s affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. Prince Charles was not very discreet about his adultering ways, adding to the humiliation. When given the opportunity to confront Camilla when she was at an event with the married couple, Diana seized the moment.
Princess Diana’s pain is evident in an audio of her recounting the event. It’s distressing to imagine Prince Charles not only having an affair but parading his mistress right in front of his wife. When the lovers left the main room and were chatting with another man elsewhere, Diana approached her husband’s mistress demanding to speak with her alone. Charles quickly bolted from the room like a coward.
Camilla claimed not to know what the Princess was talking about, but Diana didn’t give in to the lies. It was evident that Camilla was trying to stand her ground. The mistress said Diana had “everything she could ever want” including “all the men in the world.”

When Camilla asked Diana what she wanted, the People’s Princess replied, “I want my husband.” But, Camilla was obviously unwilling to part with him.
This was a very bold move for Diana but her pain was extraordinary. She wanted the affair to stop and she implored Camilla not to treat her like an “idiot.”
Diana cried uncontrollably following the encounter, but standing up for herself provided her with some relief. She felt a shift and gained confidence. Just three days later, she told Charles that he should ask Camilla what she told her.

Diana had been aware of Camilla’s presence for most of her marriage. In 1995, she famously said in an interview, “Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”

Even though she was beloved by people all over the world, she couldn’t obtain respect and love from her own husband. It can be incredibly lonely being surrounded by those who don’t want you. This is what Princess Diana experienced.
Of course, Prince Charles went on to marry Camilla after Diana’s death. But, his second wife will never have the same admiration from the public as Diana enjoyed.
