Christian Filmmaker Ditches Hollywood By Crowdfunding Series About Jesus!

A Christian filmmaker decided to bypass Hollywood in order to fund his next project. This effort has gotten a tremendous boost by faithful people who are supporting the effort with their donations after seeing the remarkable preview. These folks are banding together to bring the message of Christ in an engaging way to others throughout the world and they are leaving Hollywood out of the picture!

Dallas Jenkins has made films for some of the biggest studios in Tinseltown, but for his next project, he is crowdfunding to raise money. He wants to keep control out of the hands of Hollywood executives. This next project will be a TV series about the life of Jesus.

Last year, he released The Shepherd: A Story of the First Christmas to much applause. The short movie got so much attention from the right people that Jenkins decided to turn it into an entire television series. Kirk Cameron, Phil and Kay Roberston and Alveda King are some of those promoting this Christian project.

The Shepard: A Story Of The First Christmas is serving the role as the first episode of “The Chosen.” A trailer for Jenkins’ Christmas movie can be seen below.

The series that Jenkins is planning will be called “The Chosen.” It will be a live streaming show, so people all over the world will have access to it. His goal is to raise $13 million and so far, over 5,000 people have banded together to raise $4.1 million of that goal. These aren’t just donations. Backers are actually considered investors who will earn 120% of their investment if the show makes money. They will get profits before the creators of the project do.

Jenkins wants control of the show to be left in the hands of people who believe in Jesus. Crowdfunding offers this opportunity as it gives complete creative control to people who support the message of Christ.

“I’ve been making movies for some of the biggest studios in Hollywood for 20 years,” the filmmaker said on the crowdfunding website. “But something like you just saw shouldn’t be entrusted to Hollywood. It needs to be made by us.”

Christians have been flocking to the box office to see faith-based movies like I Can Only Imagine. This has shown a need for Christian entertainment. Thankfully, people like Jenkins are stepping up to help fulfill that need.
