New Robin Williams Documentary Answers So Many Questions

Robin Williams was an incredibly talented man who had the ability to make us laugh. His humor transcended generations, but he battled his own demons that made his personal life anything but funny.

The beloved actor is the subject of an HBO documentary that explores his life and tragic 2014 death. Although many of us viewed the “Mork and Mindy” actor as a happy go lucky man, he leaned on drugs and women to mask his deep personal pain. He was always in search of something or someone he could connect to.

Williams’ half-brother explains that Robin always felt lonely. “Even though there were three brothers, we were all raised as only children,” McLaurin Smith-Williams said. Robin validated this statement. Years before his death, he said his childhood was lonely and he was raised by the family maid.

This was a feeling that Robin carried throughout his life. Sometimes you feel the most lonely when you are surrounded by people. That was Robin’s reality and he suffered greatly. He was very comfortable on stage but when he stepped off and into his own world, the pain could be unbearable at times.

This man who made us laugh for decades was so pained by his own life that he shockingly hung himself. Prior to his death, Robin Williams was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, but it was later revealed he was misdiagnosed and actually had Lewy Body Dementia. Depression can be a killer and in Robin’s case, it was.

Come Inside My Mind debuts on July 16 on HBO. A trailer for the documentary on this funny and tragic man can be seen below.

Robin had such an amazing ability to make others laugh that it was hard to understand his pain from our position in the audience. He never showed his depression to his fans. He derived such pleasure in bringing happiness to others, but he was unable to grasp that himself.
