Meghan Markle’s family has become a major thorn in her side over the past few months, as they seem to be involved in one humiliating scandal after another. Now, things have gotten even worse for Meghan, as her future sister-in-law has been arrested for assaulting her brother, Thomas Markle Jr.
The U.K. Sun reported that Darlene Blount, who is engaged to Thomas, has been hit with two counts of assault after she was arrested last Friday. Police were called to the home Thomas and Darlene share in Grants Pass, Oregon at 2:54 am.
“(Darlene Blount) punched her boyfriend, Thomas Markle, in the face causing a physical injury to his right eye,” the arresting officer wrote in his report.
“The defendant, on or about July 19, 2018, in Josephine County, Oregon, did unlawfully and knowingly cause physical injury to Thomas Markle,” court documents state. “The state further alleges the foregoing crime constitutes domestic violence.”
For these charges, Darlene is facing a maximum of one year in jail and a $6,162 fine. Darlene had previously been arrested for assaulting Thomas on New Year’s Day, but those charges were dropped after he told police that he inflicted his injuries on himself.
When asked by reporters if she fears what the royal family will think of her arrest, Darlene said, “Yeah, I am worried [about what they will think] but it is what it is and there’s nothing I can do to change it.”
“It’s hard to say how Meghan might feel about this – she doesn’t live in the real world with real life situations like everyone else,” Thomas told Daily Mail. “I don’t think she plans on reuniting with anyone in our family. I think Meg might be having a hard time getting used to her new role as a Duchess but the only thing I think she’s doing wrong is ignoring her father and not visiting him, like the rest of the family.”
