Cops Come Up With Sneakiest Way To Catch Texting Drivers

Texting while driving is an epidemic that has plagued this country since texting technology first came out. As a result, there are countless devastating deaths attributed to this type of distracted driving. Police in Montgomery County, Maryland are using a new strategy to catch people who text while driving. Every American should take notice.

Police are tired of seeing texting drivers put their phones in their laps as soon as they see police officers. So these offers came up with a unique new way to catch them. Rare reported that officers in Montgomery County recently dressed a cop up as a homeless man and placed him on the side of a busy road.

Undercover Texting While Driving Sting

The undercover cop was holding a sign that read, “I am not homeless. I am a Montgomery County police officer looking for cell phone texting violations.” Dressed in jeans and a hoodie, the officer would radio to his fellow cops when he noticed a driver who was on his or her phone. The operation was a massive success as a total of 56 tickets were issued to drivers who were on their phones. Given how successful this was, many other police precincts around the country will likely take notice and launch similar operations.

What Do Drivers Think

However, not everyone is a fan of this operation.

“The first time I noticed this tactic in use, about a month ago, I nearly hit the car in front of me as I rolled to a stop because the creepy homeless looking person was walking up to my car and I was only looking at him and not the car that had rolled to a stop in front of me,” one livid driver said.

In the end, police are just trying to save as many lives as they can by making sure drivers choose not to text while driving. Do you think this operation is a good idea?  Or will it only lead to more problems on the road? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
