IHOP name change

The favorite restaurant formerly known as the International House of Pancakes announced that the company will be changing its name this month and people aren’t happy about it. IHOP will be changing the most important part of its name. P is getting scrapped for a word that begins with “B”. This is causing confusion to patrons who are concerned the restaurant won’t be serving its signature dish.

There is an awful lot of change going on in this world. Yesterday, it was announced the Miss America pageant is dropping the swimsuit competition. Now, they are coming for our breakfast favorites!

IHOP tweeted the big news yesterday but refused to say what the “B” would stand for. “For 60 pancakin’ years, we’ve been IHOP. Now, we’re flippin’ our name to IHOb. Find out what it could b on 6.11.18. #IHOb,” the company teased in a tweet.

IHOP customers have options beyond pancakes, making some believe the “B” might stand for bacon or even burrito. Their branding is well established as the place to go for pancakes. It’s their specialty! Why mess with it?

This big change comes at a pivotal time for the company. In February, it was announced that between 30 and 40 IHOPs will be closed. Last year, 23 IHOPs shut their doors. Now it appears that the company is trying to reinvent itself, but at what cost?

The company wouldn’t answer many questions about what the “B” stands for, but they did clarify one thing.

The company has been quiet about what the “B” stands for, but they did respond to Tiana. Pancake lovers can rest assured that these golden treats IHOP has been serving for over 50 years are staying on the menu.

It’s very possible that the “B” stands for breakfast. Whatever the name changes to, I’m glad they will still be serving pancakes!
