A mom was fed up with her daughter’s behavior. When she learned her 9-year-old was bullying peers at her school, she knew the girl needed some old school parenting in the form of a creative, tough-love punishment.
Amanda Mitchell stripped her daughter’s room of everything that could be considered a luxury. The empty room was left with only a bed and a single outfit complete including an anti-bullying shirt meant as a way to teach her daughter a serious lesson. The girl also was being forced to write “I will not lie,” “I will be kind to everyone,” and “I am responsible for my own actions fifty times. Mitchell shared that she was doing this so her “child will learn the hard way that we do not act like a******s.”
Amanda posted pictures of the empty room on Facebook. “Welcome to Mommy’s Juvenile Detention little girl,” the fed-up mother wrote on a post which is no longer public, likely thanks to liberal backlash. “Harsh? Not in my opinion. If she grows up to break the law then the result is jail and that’s not what I want for my children. I think the problem with this generation is inadequate punishment. Punishment is bad, we should only use positive reinforcement and ignore all bad behaviour — NOT in this house,” the Newfoundland mom said.
“I got a call from her teacher on Friday, explaining how Hannah has been acting up all week in class. At least two days in a row she has been found wandering the halls during lunch when she is required to remain with her class. She was picking on one of her best friends and really hurt the little one’s feelings. Lying to other teachers about her own (AMAZING) teacher. And generally just acting like an a*****e. Yes, I just said a*****e. Why? Because she’s acting like one. I know she’s not an a*****e, but if the shoe fits, right?,” the mother’s Facebook page said.

The old school Canadian mom reports that the punishment is working as her daughter is “very remorseful and apologetic.” She did amend the punishment. Her daughter only had to write each phrase 25 times and was given four different anti-bullying shirts to wear.
While some left comments of praise for this mom’s no-nonsense approach to parenting, other sensitive push-over types were very critical. One parent called her methods “extreme” and another said making her child wear the same outfit to school for a week was “overboard.”
Much like with the dad who made his bullying son run to school in the rain, softie parents were upset with Amanda for disciplining her daughter. But, it’s easier to teach a child to behave properly than it is to try to teach them when they are adults!
