barbara bush birthday

George and Barbara Bush’s love for her each other is inspirational. After 73 years of marriage, the elder President Bush is finding a way to live without his beloved Barbara.

Their storybook romance began when they were just teenagers and lasted until Barbara’s death in April at age 92. Though George faces his own health struggles in addition to mourning Barbara he is still celebrating their love. He even promoted a book about their love story while in the hospital. A picture of him in his hospital gown happily reading “A Great American Love Story,” a book about their romance was adorably shared with Twitter followers.

President Bush is now facing a lot of “firsts” without Barbara at his side. She recently would have turned 93. This must have been rather challenging for the widower who is missing his wife.

On her birthday, he tweeted about how much Barbara loved helping other people. She found a tremendous amount of joy in serving others. That legacy continues as she inspired others to leave this world a better place than you found it. This brings George comfort and happiness.

The couple got engaged in 1943. While George was at war, he had Barbara’s name put on his plane. They were married in 1945 after the future President was shot down over the Pacific Ocean. Barbara said she and George are “the two luckiest people in the world, and when all the dust is settled and all the crowds are gone, the things that matter are faith, family, and friends. We have been inordinately blessed, and we know that.”

George, who was once the most powerful man on earth, often got emotional when discussing his love for Barbara. This couple was deeply committed to each other in a way that is rare these days.
