army officer taco bell

“Our troops are always taking care of us.” That was the message Jason Gibson shared when he posted a video to Facebook of an Army officer buying two hungry kids dinner at a Taco Bell in Mobile, Alabama.

U.S. Army Ranger Lt. Col. Robert Risdon had just sat down to eat when he saw two boys walk into the restaurant. They weren’t there to order; instead, they were selling homemade desserts to raise money for their church. Noticing that they looked cold and hungry, Risdon asked if they’d had dinner yet. When they told him no, Risdon took them to the counter and bought them food.

Gibson was so moved by Risdon’s gesture that he captured it on camera and uploaded it for others to see. “I was in a taco bell tonight when two kids came in trying to sell home made desserts for money,” Gibson wrote. “I overheard a soldier ask the kids if they were hungry and told them to follow him to the counter, he would buy them dinner. I had to video it and share. Our troops are always taking care of us. Thank u LTC Robert Risdon please please share this….I heard the little one say I want to be just like u when I grow up and saluted him.”

Unsurprisingly, the video quickly went viral – and Risdon admits he’s “embarrassed” by all the praise he’s gotten. “I’m kinda embarrassed and humbled by the praise and don’t need it,” Risdon said. “I am a believer that we live in the best country in the world with the best people and that acts of kindness happen every day.”

Risdon added that it was a no-brainer to buy the kids food. “Helping them was an easy decision — more of a reaction. They were cold, wet and hungry. They were great kids, very respectful and smart,” he said. “It was the least I could do for two young Americans. They were happy to get some chow for sure, and very thankful.”

Gibson is right – our troops are always taking care of us.
