Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal was never a big light heavyweight.

His decision to move up to heavyweight was more for certain opportunities, like his recent appearance in the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix vs. Ryan Bader at Bellator 199.

But after suffering a 15-second knockout loss to Bader, Lawal believes there is a home for him at middleweight.

“This is MMA,” he posted on social media after the loss. Things don’t always go the way you expected. Congratulations to Ryan Bader for his big win. He deserves it.

“Now, this being said, it’s now time for me to move to the middleweight division.”

Lawal, a former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, has bounced around between light heavyweight and heavyweight, including victory in the Rizin Heavyweight Grand Prix back in 2015. He was also bested by Mirko Cro Cop in the quarterfinals of the open-weight grand prix hosted by Rizin in 2016.

Last March, Lawal bested Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in a heavyweight contest.
