NRA Warns Members To Steer Clear Of Restaurant Pushing Gun Control

A Dallas restaurant that was donating a portion of its proceeds to a liberal cause during the NRA Convention learned a quick lesson that it doesn’t pay to thumb your nose at the Second Amendment in Texas.

Ellen’s restaurant in the West End tried to pull a fast one into getting NRA members to donate to organizations pushing gun control. But, one NRA member blew the whistle after reading the disclaimer at the bottom of the receipt that read, “Thanks for visiting Ellen’s! A portion of this week’s proceeds will be donated to organizations dedicated to implementing reasonable and effective gun regulations. Welcome to Dallas.”

“If I had known we wouldn’t have eaten there,” Rusty Shackleford tweeted.

The Dallas News reported that Ellen’s owner Joe Groves was complaining about NRA members on Facebook.

“I’m making a list of the vile, racist, moronic conversations overheard from NRA attendees eating at the restaurant,” Groves wrote on the social media platform. “They don’t even speak softly.”

The NRA pushed out a warning to convention attendees so they knew it was likely best to steer clear of this restaurant that mocked them and the Second Amendment.

Groves tried back-peddling after the word about his restaurant quickly got out. It’s hard to run a restaurant pushing gun control in the Deep South.

“We believe in the 2nd Amendment. We also believe that patriotic people can come together to find solutions to end needless gun violence. That’s all we are proposing,” Groves said.

He didn’t really do a very good job of paving over his error as he then called supporters of the Second Amendment “fringe.”

“The majority of people in this country want compromise. They want peace and clarity,” Groves said as he continued sticking his foot in his mouth. “But when you have people on the fringes on either side, then you have a problem.”
