Dolly Parton carries out many generous acts to honor her family members. She is very grateful to her fans and family for her success and fortune. For decades, this country legend has donated her talent and fortune in an effort to pay it forward. Recently, she really outdid herself with a donation in honor of her niece who survived childhood cancer.
Family means everything to this talented performer. She has remained grounded in her roots all throughout her career. While she and her husband Carl never had children themselves, Dolly is very close to her nieces and nephews and is very proud of them.
That’s why Dolly was on hand when Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt dedicated its second-floor butterfly garden to her niece Hannah Dennison. Hannah had leukemia as a child and spent five years being treated by the kind staff at this hospital.
Dolly was there for Hannah as well and she never forgot. Hannah is now 30 years old and Dolly is incredibly grateful to the staff at the hospital who saved her life. The star made a $1 million donation to the hospital resulting in this butterfly garden being named for her beloved niece!

Rather than giving money in her own name, Dolly often does this to honor her family. She has donated over 100 million books to honor her father who was never taught to read or write. She also recently rededicated a Tennessee Senior Center in her parents’ names. Now, she has made a very lasting contribution to critically ill children.
Dolly’s generous spirit is inspiring. She is not only incredibly talented, she has such a good heart and wants to help others. She doesn’t think of this as being something grand. She just knows it’s the right thing to do! “If you’re in a position where you can do something, you should do something,” she says.
Dolly told the children that she plans on returning and singing in the butterfly garden! What a treat that will be!
