Dolly parton senior center

People at a Senior Center in Tennessee got the surprise of a lifetime when a special guest arrived. Dolly Parton stopped by to sing, chat, and exercise with these lucky senior citizens. The Country legend stopped by to rededicate the Senior Center as My People Senior Activity Center, in honor of her parents, Robert and Avie Lee Parton.

The Sevierville native’s love for her parents shines through in her songs and her charitable works. She was recently recognized at the Library of Congress for donating her 100 millionth book from her Imagination Library that was established to honor her father who was never taught to read or write. Now, she is helping senior citizens enjoy their golden years in her parents’ names as well.

Dolly entertained these seniors through song and laughter, especially when she told jokes about her plastic surgery. She also reminded them that she, too, is a senior citizen. She is 72 years old, after all.

When Dolly noticed more women doing woodworking than men, she shouted “girl power” to encourage the ladies. She also shared her secret to staying young: being busy, staying active, and getting involved.

Dolly Parton has never forgotten her roots or the importance of her family. Her parents certainly didn’t have much money, but they did have a lot of love. They showered that love on their children. Now, Dolly shares that love and sunshine with others by doing charitable acts in honor of her parents.

Her song “Coat of Many Colors” highlights how proud she has always been of her family. Even when they had next to nothing, they had each other and a whole lot of love. That’s better than most people have!
