Disabled Vet Couldn’t Walk To Wife’s Grave, Then Two Angels Showed Up

A visit to Arlington National Cemetary can be rather emotional. The sense of patriotism and the sacrifice of our warriors is evident everywhere you step. One WWII veteran’s visit to his wife’s grave will hit you hard in the feelings as it shows his devotion to his country and his wife.

96-year-old George Boone came up to Washington from North Carolina on an Honor Flight. The B-24 pilot understands the sacrifice of all the veterans buried there. When his plane was shot down over Romania in 1943, he became a prisoner of war.

This WWII hero will be buried at Arlington one day. Until then, his wife awaits him there. Alma Boone passed away in 2007. As the spouse of a veteran, she was laid to rest at the national cemetery.

While he was in Washington during his Honor Flight, Boone wanted to visit his wife’s grave likely for the last time in his life. This posed a problem as typically Honor Flights don’t allow veterans a lot of time to explore the cemetery. The fact that Boone had trouble walking further complicated this endeavor.

“I just sort of gave up on the whole thing and thought I would have to visit her from that distance,” the WWII veteran said.

But, two people stepped up to make this happen. A cemetery worker and a volunteer helped get Boone to his beloved wife’s grave. In the rush to get there, they left his wheelchair behind, so one of them kindly carried Boone on his back.

The veteran’s son Jon Boone documented this touching event. The Boone family is grateful to these two people, who wish to remain anonymous. They helped this WWII hero to pay his respects to his beloved wife of 56 years.

Share this if you support our veterans!
