van seat collapse

A bizarre tragedy has a left an Ohio family mourning after their teen son was crushed to death in a Honda Odyssey minivan in his high school parking lot.

Kyle Plush called 911 saying “Help, I’m stuck inside my van. I’m going to die here.” The dispatcher asked where he was. He said he was in the Seven Hills (High School parking lot).

“This is not a joke. I’m trapped inside my gold Honda Odyssey van in the (inaudible) parking lot of the Seven Hills,” Plush said to the dispatchers. He apparently used the Siri feature on his iPhone to call for help as he can be heard asking for Siri during the 911 call.

Police responded to the scene but were unable to find the dying teen. The dispatcher didn’t relay information regarding the car. The two officers who arrived looked for someone in distress, but they obviously had trouble putting the pieces of the puzzle together without all the information from the dispatcher.

Plush called 911 a second time asking for help, saying that he didn’t have much time left. “I probably don’t have much time left. Tell my mom I love her if I die,” Plush heartbreakingly said.

Plush’s father found his body six hours after his 911 call. Reportedly, Kyle had been crushed to death by the third row of seats in the minivan. He was reaching in to get his tennis racquet when this occurred.

Now, a family is left grieving their son, and the community is grappling with how this happened, and why wasn’t he found in time. 911 dispatcher Amber Smith has been placed on administrative leave during an investigation.

Kyle is being remembered for his kindness and generous spirit. The teen lived with spinal developmental issues that limited his mobility, he loved sports, even participating with his high school tennis team.

A timeline of this tragedy is in the video below.

There were no open recalls on the 2004 Honda Odyssey. Any recall on the van had already been repaired. There are many unanswered questions remaining in this tragedy.
