Barbara Bush Cartoon Will Make The Bushes Cry

There is no greater pain than losing a child. This is something that Barbara and George Bush experienced when their daughter Robin died in 1953 before her 4th birthday.

After the former First Lady passed away this week, tributes came pouring in, but one outweighed many of the others. Cartoonist Marshall Ramsey expressed the thrill that this mother must have had when she saw her daughter, Pauline Robinson “Robin” Bush, for the first time in over 60 years as she arrived in Heaven.

Members of the Bush family have been sharing the incredibly touching cartoon on social media.

Robin was an active child, so Barbara was concerned when she suddenly became exhausted and no longer wanted to play. The doctor confirmed that young Robin had leukemia.

The doctor told them to “take her home, love her and in about two weeks she will be gone.” Barbara wrote in her book “Her advice was to tell no one, go home, forget that Robin was sick, make her as comfortable as we could, love her — and let her gently slip away. She said this would happen very quickly.”

But, the Bushes wanted to give Robin the chance to fight back against the disease. The next day, they flew her to Sloan Kettering in New York where she received treatment for seven months before she passed away.

“I was combing her hair and holding her hand,” Barbara Bush recalled. “I saw that little body, I saw her spirit go.”

Robin remained a strong presence in Barbara’s life. She was eternally a three-year-old to her mother. Barbara envisioned her as an angel. “Robin to me is a joy,” Barbara said. “She’s like an angel to me, and she’s not a sadness or a sorrow.”

That is why this cartoon is so touching. It shows the joy that must have been experienced during this reunion.

Cartoonist Marshall Ramsey commented on Jenna Bush Hager’s Facebook post that he would be willing to give the original artwork to the Bush family. “Your grandmother was like our grandmother,” Ramsey wrote. “My heart is going out to you and your whole family today. What a special lady she was and what an awesome legacy she left behind. God bless you.”

Robin’s body is buried at the George H.W. Bush Library in College Station, Texas. On Saturday, Barbara will be buried beside her.

Share this if you think the cartoon is a beautiful tribute!
