MLB Sends Yankees A ‘Cease And Desist’

Beer and Major League Baseball games go hand and hand. It’s a tradition to overpay for a beer while you’re watching a big league game. But, the MLB has ordered a beer vendor at Yankees games to “cease and desist” serving a beer targeted at Yankees fans.

Blue Point Brewery serves beer to fans in the outfield and elsewhere at Yankee Stadium. They have a machine called Beer Ripples that creates images in the foam of the beer. They were making some fun pictures in beers. You can see one in the tweeted video below.

They were also printing pictures of current New York Yankees players. The brewery was rather excited about this because they could easily change whose face was printed in the foam. This seems rather fun and harmless. But, it’s a big no-no, and MLB called them out on it.

Major League Baseball has strict rules against current players being used to sell alcohol. Young kids and underage adults look up to these players, so there is a concern it would encourage underage drinking, among other reasons.

MLB was unaware of what was going on until it was released at a media event. The Yankees spokesperson had to do some back peddling about the beer foam.

“Our hospitality team took Monday’s event as an opportunity to test the image machine with various Yankees-related logos and photos,” the spokesman said. “However, the Yankees have no current plans of incorporating this decorative element on concessions items this season.”

Blue Point Brewery has a number of stations at Yankee Stadium. Some have the Beer Ripples machine that will allow fans to buy beer with images in the foam. You just can’t buy a beer that has a current player looking up at you.

Do you agree with the MLB’s decision, or should the Yankees be allowed to continue creating images with the foam from beer? Share your thoughts below!
