Video: Actor Mario Lopez Baptized In Jordan River!

It’s unfortunately rare these days to see a celebrity who joyfully and openly celebrates their faith, but actor and TV host Mario Lopez is not afraid. Last week, Lopez took a trip to Israel to be baptized in the Jordan River, and he shared the entire experience with his millions of followers on social media.

In one video posted to Instagram, Lopez stood by the Sea of Galilee. “This is where Jesus walked on water,” he said, “and the River Jordan runs into the sea, and that’s where, of course, Jesus got baptized, which I’m gonna be doing!”

Lopez shared another video leading up to his baptism on Twitter. “We are at the Jordan River where John the Baptist baptized Jesus Christ. I’m about to get baptized,” he said. “It’s a beautiful day. There’s a really cool Catholic priest that’s gonna do me the honors. And there’s a sermon going on right now. So I’m going to join these fine folks and then, bam! It’s on!”

In the video of his baptism, the joy on Lopez’s face is evident. Flanked by two Catholic priests in the river, Lopez proclaimed his faith:

“Do you believe in Jesus Christ?”

“Yes, I do.”

“Do you believe that he is the son of God?”

“Yes, I do.”

“Do you intend to serve him all your life?”

“Yes, I do.”

Afterward, Lopez expressed his thanks for the uniquely spiritual moment. “Thank you,” he said as he exited the river. “Beautiful people here. This is awesome. Wow. I just got baptized in the Jordan River. Hallelujah.”

But Lopez didn’t stop with his baptism. He also shared videos touring the Old City of Jerusalem, including the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. In one video, Lopez describes the events leading up to Jesus’s crucifixion.

Lopez, a devout Catholic, has been making a growing effort over the last few years to strengthen his faith. “It’s nice to have something that is consistent in our life — family and faith is that for me,” he said in 2015.
