Carpool Karaoke Of 50 Down Syndrome Children Singing With Their Moms Is Sure To Make You Cry

World Down Syndrome Day is March 21, and in an effort to bring awareness to the day, a group of 50 mothers and their 50 Down syndrome children recorded a compilation carpool karaoke video that’s taken the internet by storm.

The sweet video was put together by members of the Designer Genes Facebook support group. Over the course of several months, dozens of members recorded themselves using sign language and lip-syncing in their cars to Christina Perri’s song, “A Thousand Miles.” One parent then worked to edit all the footage together into a single video, cleverly titled, “50 Mums | 50 Kids | 1 Extra Chromosome.”

The video was uploaded to YouTube on March 16, and quickly went viral; to date, it’s been viewed more than 1.2 million times. It even caught the attention of Carpool Karaoke creator James Corden, who called it “The most beautiful Carpool Karaoke.”

Rebecca Carless, one of the mothers in the video, said the members of Designer Genes were inspired by the group Singing Hands, who use sign language to do nursery rhymes. Carless also said the parents in the group are blown away and overjoyed at how much impact their video has had:

“We definitely wanted everyone to see it,” she said. “The idea is, we are just normal mums, we love our kids, they love us, and they are just like other four-year-olds, we wouldn’t change them.”

These mothers couldn’t have picked a more beautiful or touching way to raise awareness for World Down Syndrome Day. Children with Down syndrome are no less worthy of love than any other child, and this video shows that they deserve all the love of a 1,000 years and more.
