James Corden is great at making Americans laugh. His carpool karaoke segment is always worth watching. You never know what will happen as he drives around belting out songs with stars.
But, there is something about the late night TV host you might not know. He is a Christian. James was raised in a devoutly Christian home, but he struggled with his faith when his fame rose in 2008. He partied too much and felt empty. Simply put, James felt lost.
Then his parents showed up. James describes them as the “ideal Christians.” They prayed with him to help him find peace.
“Sadly, I had nothing to say to them. I felt distant from them. I hated them seeing me like this and I could barely look them in the face,” he said. “Then, all of a sudden, Dad put his arms around me. I couldn’t help but cry. I felt so embarrassed at the way I’d been living my life, the arrogance and lack of respect I’d shown myself and my work.
“Every tear that left my eyes made me feel a little lighter. Dad said a prayer as he kissed my forehead and Mum joined the hug. I’ve no idea how long we stayed there, but it felt like a lifetime.
When they left, Dad said, ‘You’ve so much to be thankful for James. I know it’s been a tricky year, but you can’t carry on like this’.”
It was a life changing moment for Corden. It helped ground him and make him the comedian he is today.
