The World Lost Billy Graham Today

“America’s Pastor” Billy Graham passed away this morning at the age of 99.

Graham devoted his life to Jesus Christ. He traveled the world to bring God’s word to people who otherwise wouldn’t have heard it. “My one purpose in life,” he said, “is to help people find a personal relationship with God, which, I believe, comes through knowing Christ.”

Graham was a spiritual counselor to every president since Harry Truman. Democrats and Republicans sought him out. The Queen of England even sought out his spiritual guidance. He is described as a humble man who had a gift of reaching people and turning them to Christ.

Billy Graham took his Christian Crusades to over 185 countries. His audience is estimated to be 215 million people and many more who watched him on television.

Graham was born November 7, 1918, and was raised on a North Carolina dairy farm. At the age of 15, he became a Christian. He was ordained a Southern Baptist clergyman in 1939.

Martin Luther King, Jr. credited Graham with helping pave the way with his Crusades for the Civil Rights Movement. “Had it not been for the ministry of my good friend Dr. Billy Graham, my work in the Civil Rights Movement would not have been as successful as it has been,” King said.

Graham believed God loved everyone equally. This was a groundbreaking in some areas at the time. “Jesus was not a white man; He was not a black man. He came from that part of the world that touches Africa and Asia and Europe,” Graham preached. “Christianity is not a white man’s religion, and don’t let anybody ever tell you that it’s white or black. Christ belongs to all people; He belongs to the whole world.”

Billy Graham had a powerful impact on hundreds of millions of people during the course of his life. He certainly was a lifelong servant of Christ and deserves all the rewards Heaven has to offer him.

Share this if you are praying for the Graham family and to remind those of the good he did in this life!
