On the December 19th episode of Monday Night Raw, Dean Ambrose appeared to suffer an injury to his right elbow during a six-man tag match with Seth Rollins and Jason Jordan against Cesaro, Sheamus, and Samoa Joe.
Later on, when Ambrose was having his arm checked out by medical staff backstage, the injury was further exacerbated when Joe attacked and smashed Ambrose’s arm in a road case.
On the surface, it certainly seemed to be a storyline injury. However, multiple reports indicate that the angle was done in order to cover for an actual elbow injury suffered by Ambrose.
According to the Wrestling Observer, Ambrose “arrived at television hurt and the show was rewritten to cover for it.” PWInsider added that Ambrose “will be traveling to Birmingham, Alabama [Wednesday] to have the issue diagnosed and dealt with.”
Birmingham, of course, is where renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews is located. Dr. Andrews has performed surgery on many other injured WWE Superstars throughout the years, including on Seth Rollins’s knee and Finn Balor’s shoulder. The fact that Ambrose is making the trip down to see him certainly doesn’t bode well.
Depending on the seriousness of the injury, this could be terrible news for both Ambrose and the other members of The Shield. Not that long ago, it was rumored that Ambrose would turn heel heading into WrestleMania season. Now, those plans could well be in jeopardy.
Whatever the case, here’s wishing Ambrose a speedy recovery and return.
