Prince Harry Marines

Prince Harry’s engagement to Meghan Markle isn’t the only new thing in his life. Harry has a new role after the Queen appointed him Captain General of the Royal Marines. Harry has taken over this position that was held by his grandfather, Prince Philip, for an astounding 64 years. Philip was appointed to the position in 1953.

Harry accompanied the Duke of Edinburgh on Tuesday for the longstanding Captain General’s final duty. The grandfather and grandson hosted the incoming and outgoing Commandants General at Buckingham Palace.

Philip’s last official duty before retirement was his 22,219th solo engagement since his wife took the throne. As Britain’s longest-serving consort, the Duke of Edinburgh has been very active in his public duties, right up until his final one.

Harry is now taking over as his grandfather begins his well-earned retirement. Harry served in the Army for 10 years, including two tours in Afghanistan. He now helps wounded soldiers transition to their new lives. His Invictus Games brings together wounded warriors from across the globe to participate in athletic events.

Prince Harry is a fully operational attack helicopter pilot. His commitment to his country and fellow veterans make him well-suited to replace his grandfather in this role. He will continue the Royal Family’s commitment to those who serve in the military.

The Corps of the Royal Marines is one of the world’s most elite commando forces. Today, there are 6,650 Royal Marines. It is the focal point of the Royal Navy’s amphibious capability.

Now, Harry is Captain General of the Royal Marines. It’s the first time in almost seven decades that there is someone new in this position. Harry has big shoes to fill after his beloved grandfather’s retirement, but his commitment to his fellow soldiers will certainly help guide him along.
