Many pet owners allow their pets to sleep with them. It’s a bonding experience that many pack animals enjoy. But, there are some pets that simply should not sleep in your bed, as one snake owner learned.
A woman allowed her python to sleep with her each night. Most us recognize this isn’t a wise idea. It’s one thing to allow your dog or cat to sleep with you. It’s something entirely different to doze off to sleep cuddling up with a reptile that is known for swallowing men whole!
Every night, the massive snake would curl up with its owner. When she slept on her stomach, the reptile would spread out so it could reach from her head to her toes. The python owner relished this experience but she soon began to worry, not about herself but about her snake.
After snoozing together for several weeks, the python went on a hunger strike. She took her pet to the vet in order to figure out what was wrong. The snake typically enjoyed mealtime so rejecting food was very unusual for it.
The vet asked the owner about the snake’s routine and was shocked to hear they slept together. The vet then questioned the snake’s positioning during the night. When the owner informed the vet that the snake both curled up with her and also stretched itself out on her, the vet looked horrified.
The vet explained to the woman that her beloved python was sizing her up for its next meal. It was stretching itself out to measure her length so it would know whether it could take her on. The snake was actually rehearsing for the big feast. It also was starving itself in preparation for this large meal.
This woman almost won a Darwin Award by being gobbled up by her pet snake while sleeping! I would have turned that snake into a purse after learning this news!
