When you have a good persona as a wrestler and the ring ability to match it, you can certainly become a wrestling icon. However, the WWE loves to play around with good things sometimes, which led to the following unexpected wrestler character changes!

Steve Austin Becomes a Hugger

Stone Cold Steve Austin was known for his manly attitude. He liked a good beer, nd did not take any crap from his opponents. Of course, this all changed when Stone Cold got a personality transplant, becoming a softy and liking hugs. Naturally, this was one of the strangest character transformations ever seen on WWE television. Fortunately for us, Stone Cold changed back to his usual self later on.

That being said, there were some funny moment as well when Stone Cold turned into Vince’s friend. Most of these funny moments also included Kurt Angle, so it was not all bad.

Eric Bischoff Joins NWO?

Eric Bischoff, the mastermind of the NWO, ran out of ideas pretty quick and ruined WCW. Especially when he joined the NWO, making the entire wrestling stable seem incredibly stupid. In the end, you did not know who you should be cheering for.

But as this change kind of made sense, this next one did not at all and because highly problematic.

The One Man Gang Becomes African

Some wrestlers need a character update from time to time, but none was so dramatic as the One Man Gang becoming African. Needless to say, the entire thing was quite offensive and did not hit off with the crowd. It also killed his character and his fame, so this is a prime example of characters you should not try as a professional wrestler.

Katie Vick

The name Katie Vick almost destroyed Kane’s career, even though it was not Kane who was responsible for the debacle, but Triple H. During a promo, Triple H dressed up as Kane in the unforgettable funeral segment. Unfortunately, the WWE ran with this story for a while!

Fortunately for us, Kane’s career survived. Still, whenever we hear the name Katie Vick, we cannot look at Kane or Triple H for several months. Sorry about that!

Del Rio Is Actually Poor!

When Alberto Del Rio arrived in the WWE, his character was a rich playboy who we all love to hate. However, the WWE changed its mind along the way, making it seem like Del Rio was actually poor. Forget about all the wonderful cars he was driving to the ring because they were all rentals according to the story. Naturally, this caused Del Rio’s character to be utterly destroyed. Still, he would eventually destroy his own reputation through his own words.

Why I Think Drastic Character Changes Are Dangerous?

Drastic character changes are extremely difficult to pull off. In my opinion, there has only been one man that successfully changed his character – the Undertaker. Going from the Undertaker to the American Bad Ass and then back again. He is the only one who managed it successfully.
