Carol Burnett Match Game

Daytime television shows in the 1970s were so fun, mainly because you didn’t know who would show up on them. Back then, stars weren’t too full of themselves to appear on a TV show, even in the middle of the day. They loved entertaining their fans and having fun.

Match Game fans and contestants experienced a fun surprise when Carol Burnett and other members of her show crashed a taping of the show. The Carol Burnett Show was one of the most popular series at that time. So, when they showed up on the set of Match Game, they were welcomed with open arms by host Gene Rayburn.

Family Feud host Richard Dawson was one of the celebrities playing that day. In typical Dawson fashion, he came down to greet Carol with a big smooch. This encouraged Gene Rayburn to get friendly with Vicki Lawrence.

Tim Conway and Jim Nabors were also there. The four sat in on the show, answering one of the questions. Thankfully, they were there because the other celebrities bombed at a hilarious fill in the blank question, as you can see in the video below. Carol and crew saved the day for this contestant!

These classic game shows were hilarious. They weren’t PC at all. They were just there to have fun and weren’t worried about offending anyone or hurting someone’s feelings. This was back when people could take a joke. If someone didn’t want to be kissed by Richard Dawson, they could just say so. Today, he couldn’t get away with that on television. The feminists would be out with their pitchforks!
