Bandung Zoo has been deemed Indonesia’s “Death Zoo.” The animals live in deplorable conditions. A giraffe that recently died was found to have 40 pounds of plastic trash in its stomach. A 34-year-old elephant recently died while weeping and chained to the ground.
These animals live a miserable existence. The video below of starving bears is proof of that. They are so emaciated, their ribs are visible as they beg zoo visitors for scraps of food. Indonesia has very lax laws on animal abuse, so the zoo has been able to get away with it thus far.
A petition has been launched asking for the zoo to be closed. It asks for the President of Indonesia and his Minister of Environment and Forestry to close the zoo and relocate the animals to a conservation or sanctuary where they will be properly cared for. You can sign the petition here.
