Ronnie Wood cancer

No one is immune to cancer. Fame and fortune won’t shield anyone from getting this deadly disease and one rock legend learned that the hard way.

The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood announced over the weekend that he was diagnosed with lung cancer three months ago during a routine screening before an upcoming tour. Wood stopped smoking one month prior to the birth of his twin daughters last year, but the damage had already been done.

At his pre-tour check-up, the doctor asked Wood if he wanted to do a more in-depth screening of his heart, lungs, and blood. Thankfully, Wood agreed.

“And then he came back with the news that I had this supernova burning in my left lung. And, to be totally honest, I wasn’t surprised,” Wood told The Daily News. “I knew I hadn’t had a chest X-ray since I went into Cottonwood [a rehab clinic in Tucson, Arizona] in 2002. He asked me what I wanted to do and my answer was simple: ‘Just get it out of me.'”

Wood said he was in torture for five days as he waited for the test results. He was preparing to say goodbye to his family. He decided that he wasn’t going to get chemotherapy for a rather unusual reason. Was he concerned that the chemo wouldn’t work?

“No. It’s more I wasn’t going to lose my hair. This hair wasn’t going anywhere. No way. And I just kept the faith it would be all right. A week later they came back with the news that it hadn’t spread and I said, ‘Let’s get it out now,'” Wood said.

The guitarist had a five-hour operation to repair the damage to his lung. He will get checkups every three months and The Rolling Stones’ tour will be not affected by Wood’s health. He is back on his feet and ready to entertain.

Wood and his bandmates will be playing such favorites as “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” which you can see in the video below, for fans.

Wood credits his 39-year-old wife Sally for helping him kick his drug addiction. He has been free of drugs and alcohol for eight years. His current addictions are TV and Netflix.

Keith Richards should take note of Wood’s lung cancer. There have been jokes and rumors about Richard’s longevity for decades. Hopefully, Ron encourages Keith to get a full screening, too!
