A viral math/logic problem is making people scratch their heads for a different reason. There are actually two correct answers, but only one in 1000 people will get the second answer. Are you one of those special few?
Neither answer is straight math as they both require quite a bit of logic.
To get the first answer, add 1 and 4 to get 5. Then, you add 2 and 5 to the sum of the first problem (5), giving you 12. For the third line, add 3 and 6 to the previous sum (12) to get 21. Finally, add 8 and 11 to the prior sum of 21 to get 40.
That is the most common answer. The second answer is more detailed as it involves multiplication rather than addition.
“If you multiply 4 x 1 and then add 1, you’ll also get a solution‚ of 5. Following that rule for the other equations, you’d compute 2 + (2 x 5) + 12. Then, 3 + (3 x 6)= 21. And 8 + (8 x 11) which equals 96.”
This is actually a logic problem rather than a math problem, so the “+” is a symbol and part of the equation. You aren’t bound to solve it as written. So, both 40 and 96 are correct answers!
Share this if you got one of these answers!
