Vacationers who patron all-inclusive resorts have an expectation of safety, but it appears that might be an illusion for some who have visited five star resorts in Mexico.
Abbey Conner and her brother Austin were with their family at the Iberostar Hotel & Resorts’ Paraiso del Mar. On their first day of vacation in January, they were found face down in the resort swimming pool.
The hotel didn’t inform their parents they had been taken to the hospital. They found out when the siblings didn’t show up for dinner. Austin was in stable condition with a golf ball sized lump on his head. Abbey was on life support. Her collarbone was also broken. Abbey later died.
Abbey’s cause of death was ruled an accidental drowning yet there was no explanation given by the Mexican doctors as to why her collarbone was broken.
An investigator hired by the Conner family believes tainted alcohol played a factor in Abbey’s death and Austin’s injury. “They serve alcoholic drinks with alcohol of bad quality and in great amounts, mixing different types of drinks,” he said.
There are numerous reports of vacationers having alarming experiences with suspicious alcohol at Mexican all-inclusive resorts in Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
One Wisconsin women claims she was sexually assaulted after she and her husband blacked out from drinking alcohol. Her OB/GYN substantiated her claims. These aren’t isolated events as the video below details.
Vacation is a time to relax, but it resulted in a a life or death situation for some Americans. It is reasonable to expect staff to not serve tainted food or drinks. This is more than a little alarming. I know I will think twice before going to one of these resorts.
