John Wayne Gacy

“Killer clown” John Wayne Gacy preyed on young boys and men in Chicago for several years before he was caught. Gacy is thought to have committed 33 murders between 1972 and 1978. Six of those victims remain unidentified.

One family got some long overdue closure when they got DNA confirmation that their son was among those unidentified victims of Gacy.

James Byron Haakenson left Minnesota at age 16 to start his life in Chicago. He arrived in Chicago in August 1976. He called his mom on August 6th. She never heard from him again. Police believe that Haakenson died shortly after that call, perhaps even the same day.

Gacy is known to have preyed on men who were alone, gay or looking for work. He lured the men and boys into this home under these pretenses and then killed them. This is likely what happened to Haakenson. The teen was found in a crawlspace in the home, but his body was unidentifiable after decomposing.

More information on this latest victim and how police identified him is in the video below.

Gacy was executed in 1994 for his horrific crimes. He has been burning in hell for over 20 years, but police continue attempting to identifying his victims.
