The Face That Runs The Place just got another big Hollywood role, and it may be his biggest yet! John Cena has taken a lot of time off from WWE lately to act and host television shows. But today he announced that he is starring in a spin-off of the popular Transformers franchise. The film will feature the Bumblebee character and also star Hailee Steinfeld.

The story is set in the year 1987, where Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town. Charlie (Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary yellow VW bug.

So it seems that Cena became a box office leading man. He’s far off from being The Rock in terms of box office power, but Cena is heading that way. He’s already shown himself to be a versatile leading and supporting actor. In the last few years, John Cena began to spend more time in a studio than the squared circle. This has led some to accuse him of becoming a “part-timer” which is a charge he’s denied on television.

John Cena’s WWE Future

Cena is wrestling Shinsuke Nakamura on Smackdown for a chance to face Jinder Mahal at SummerSlam. It seems unlikely to imagine a SummerSlam card without Cena. But that might be the reality we are facing. I have no idea how much time John Cena has left in the ring. It wouldn’t shock me if he becomes a figure who comes out to wrestle at a few PPVs and live events a year. Not that he would ever take it, but he’s earned time off. No one gave more time to WWE over the past decade than Cena short of Vince and Triple H. He is still the top drawing star in merch and ticket sells. When he is on TV ratings are up. WWE is still looking for his replacement.

John Cena’s a great actor. I’ll have to swallow my dislike of big-budget explosion movies to support him this one.
