Wildfires are roaring across much of California, forcing thousands of local residents to evacuate their homes. America’s most populated state continues to battle the out-of-control disaster amid high temperatures and dry conditions.
Over the weekend, some 8,000 people were forced to flee their homes as firefighters in California were battling 14 wildfires according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
According to Yahoo, The Alamo fire “has scorched 23,867 acres after starting in San Luis Obsipo County and spreading to Santa Barbara County along the state’s central coast.”
Authorities are reporting that the fire is approximately 15% contained and in Santa Barbara County, 1,000 firefighters are battling the fire, forcing 200 people to flee.
Southern California, including Los Angeles, has been dealing with an extreme heat wave, making conditions ripe for wildfires in the area. Earlier this year, California Governor Jerry Brown finally called an end to the state’s most recent drought that lasted over 5 years.
