Little People, Big World star Zach Roloff and his wife Tori had their first child, a son they named Jackson. Of course fans of the show were wondering if Jackson is a dwarf like Zach, his father, and his paternal grandparents.
Before announcing anything specific about Jackson’s health, the couple shared a picture of their family of three on Instagram.
Don’t be deceived by Jackson’s impressive birth weight. Like his father, he does have achondroplasia, the most common form of dwarfism. Jackson had a 50% chance of having this condition.
Males born with achondroplasia grow to an average height of 4’4″ with a normal lifespan. However, babies may have delays in muscle development and trouble breathing.
Zach obviously understands the struggles Jackson will face and he’ll encourage his son to persevere. “You have to encourage a dwarf child a little more because it will take them five steps to do what others can do in two,” Zach said. “But I knew, dwarf or not, I was going to parent my child with the mentality that not everyone gets a trophy. You have to earn it.”
Everything is earned in the Roloff family, not given! And Jackson is sure to be getting lots of love and encouragement from his family.
Watch the couple celebrate the birth of their newborn baby boy:
Jackson will soon be an older cousin. Zach’s fraternal twin Jeremy’s wife is expecting a daughter this summer.
Share this if you are happy for the Roloff family!
