A new report from South Korea’s Yonhap news agency notes the United States is deploying two more aircraft carriers to the region.

Along with CVN-70 Carl Vinson, the South Korean news agency notes CVN-76 Ronald Reagan and CVN-68 Nimitz will be en route to the South Korean coast. The Ronald Reagan is currently stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, while the Nimitz is scheduled to enter the Sea of Japan next week.

The report indicates the three aircraft carriers will be taking part in joint drills with South Korea.

As well as deploying these two aircraft carriers, Bloomberg notes President Trump “is willing to consider ordering ‘kinetic’ military action, including a sudden strike, to counteract North Korea’s destabilizing actions in the region.”

National Security Adviser General H.R. McMaster reinforced this idea when he told ABC’s “This Week” the National Security Council is collaborating with the Department of Defense and the State Department to “provide options and have them ready for him if this pattern of destabilizing behavior continues.”

Watch:

China for its part has not committed to any specific course of action. Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang wants tensions to ease in order to find a peaceful resolution. He noted that China wants to continue the multi-party negotiations that ended in a stalemate in 2009. He also said the United States’ plans to build a missile defense system in South Korea are damaging relations between China and the United States.
