Donald Trump

North Korea’s Kim Jung Un detained American citizen Tony Kim over the weekend and then threatened to destroy a United States aircraft carrier. President Donald Trump wasted no time in responding to the threat of North Korea when he gave a prepared speech from the White House.

He criticized the United Nations’ role in allowing North Korea to continue their actions without facing any consequences.

President Trump declared, “the status quo in North Korea is also unacceptable. The council must be prepared to impose additional and stronger sanctions on North Korean nuclear and ballistic missile programs. This is a real threat to the world whether we want to talk about it or not. North Korea is a big world problem. And it’s a problem we have to finally solve.”

Listen:

President Trump is right: “People have put blindfolds on for decades. And now it’s time to solve the problem.”

He’s exactly right that it’s time to solve the problem and President Trump has intimated that if the United Nations is unwilling to face this huge problem, he and the American people will deal with it.

Along with his suggestions to the United Nations, President Trump called Chinese President Xi Jinping and “committed to strengthen coordination in achieving the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.”

However, Chinese state media reported that Mr. Xi asked President Trump to “refrain from taking any action that will aggravate tensions.”

This message echoed another made by a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman: “Stay calm and restrained, and don’t take any actions that could escalate tensions.”

President Trump has already deployed the USS Carl Vinson to the Korean peninsula and he has also sent submarines to the area. There are also reports that two more carrier groups will be joining the USS Carl Vinson’s carrier group to take part in war games with South Korea.

How do you think Donald Trump should deal with North Korea?
