Lorrie Morgan

Lorrie Morgan may be the daughter of country legend George Morgan, but she is s country star in her own right. She’s had more than 25 Billboard singles and three songs that have topped the charts. She’s seen a lot of changes in country music over the years and she doesn’t really like what’s going on today.

Lorrie takes exception to the fact that a lot of country songs sound like pop songs. She likes pop music, but believes it should belong in that genre. Country today doesn’t sound like county in the past as it’s morphed into country pop – or bro country.

“I really don’t even know what current country music is anymore. I am as flabbergasted as anyone and have no idea what is country and what is not anymore. I am not a fan of country today…Today’s country can’t be differentiated between pop, and you can’t tell them apart. Don’t mistake what I am saying, I love pop music. If you are going to be in the country category and call yourself a country artist, then stick with it,” Morgan told Florida Today.

Lorrie hinted that she will be releasing a traditional sounding country album with Pam Tillis. That would be great to hear! I hope it happens.

One my favorite songs of hers was “What Part of No” which you can see in the video below. It’s an actual country song. There’s no autotune or flash. It’s country, pure and simple!

I agree with Lorrie. Today’s country music isn’t the same as it used to be. Sometimes things can change for the better, but not when it’s mixing county with pop.

Share this if you love traditional sounding country music!
