Rabbi Levi Shemtov

On the eve of the holidays, Barack Obama allowed the United Nations to pass a resolution condemning Israeli settlements in Jerusalem and the West Bank as being illegal. President Obama has not respected our ally during the duration of his presidency, but he may have taken it too far this time.

Some Democratic Senators and Congress, including incoming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) denounced Obama’s backhanded approach to Israel.

Rabbi Levi Shemtov took it a step farther by trashing Obama during the lighting of the 30 foot National Menorah during Hanukkah. The Rabbi spoke after the Obama Administration’s representative to the Sunday event, Adam Szubin, acting treasury undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence.

Szubin’s speech was about fighting darkness with light. Rabbi Shemtov readdressed Szubin’s remarks by telling a nice story about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu creating light.

Shemtov then went on to speak about the UN’s resolution condemning Israel. “So as I know that some of us are so sad at what happened there with regard to Israel,” Shemtov said. “We must remember that the way to counter any darkness, any disappointment is not with harsh rhetoric, not with anger, but when we create light, the darkness dissipates.

This is being seen as a loud slap to Obama in close proximity to the White House on the first full day of Hanukkah, which also coincided with Christmas. You can hear the Rabbi’s remarks that are getting a lot of attention below.

Rabbi Shemtov wasn’t the only one using Hanukkah as a way to denounce Obama’s backhanded approach to Israel. In the liberal haven of San Francisco, another Rabbi did something similar as you can see in the video below.

On Christmas Day, Netanyahu launched a scathing attack on President Obama for his refusal to veto the anti-Semitic United Nations resolution. The Prime Minister then summoned the US Ambassador.

“It’s an old story that the United Nations gangs up against Israel. What is new is that the United States did not stand up and oppose that gang up. And what is outrageous is that the United States was actually behind that gang up,” Ron Dermer, the Israeli Ambassador to the US told CNN’s “New Day, “echoing the case Netanyahu laid out a day earlier.

There are only three more weeks until Donald Trump is sworn in as the 45th president of the United States. He has promised he will strengthen ties to Israel and his pick for Ambassador to Israel proves that he is serious. It can’t come soon enough!

Share this if you stand with Israel!
