Johnny Cash Thanksgiving

Johnny Cash was a proud Christian. He made it abundantly clear on The Johnny Cash Show. This variety show ran from 1969 to 1971. It’s so fun to watch these episodes decades later and remember how fun television used to be.

During one of those episodes during Thanksgiving, he reminded us what the holiday is all about. We always have something to be thankful for, even in meager times. We can still be thankful for the sun and children’s laughter. Good neighbors always make hard times a little easier. And of course Americans are fortunate to live in the greatest country on earth.

The story about a poor family’s Thanksgiving prayer is a great reminder that we need to be grateful for not just the big things, but also the basics. We always have something to be grateful for even when it feels things aren’t going our way.

It’s a reminder that is still relevant today and maybe needs to be even heard more than before.

Take a listen.

You wouldn’t hear too many of today’s stars praying on TV and being grateful for the simple things. We need to bring back humility. We were fortunate to have humble and relatable stars on television once upon a time. This Thanksgiving, I’m grateful that YouTube allows me to watch these classic TV episodes.

Long after The Johnny Cash Show ended, the country legend was a guest on a Thanksgiving episode of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. Once again, Johnny shared a story of gratitude on this important American holiday. Johnny shared his Christian faith by singing a Thanksgiving Prayer. Click here to watch that video.

There is always something to be grateful for, even when we are feeling down on our luck. A little gratitude goes a long way, especially at Thanksgiving.

Share this if you have plenty to be thankful for!
