Alligator, hatching

Matt and Melissa Graves of Elkhorn, Nebraska, the parents of 2-year-old Lane who was attacked by an alligator at a Disney resort in Orlando, are speaking out.

Words cannot describe the shock and grief our family is experiencing over the loss of our son. We are devastated and ask for privacy during this extremely difficult time. To all of the local authorities and staff who worked tirelessly these past 24 hours, we express our deepest gratitude.

Lane Graves was attacked by a gator at the Seven Seas Lagoon at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Tuesday night.

Search and rescue crews were deployed overnight and throughout the day in a 16 hour search. They eventually found the boy’s body intact.

Officials captured at least five alligators during their search and believe there is a “good chance” that they already have the gator that pulled the boy into the water.

Walt Disney is currently conducting a thorough review of all its processes and protocols including the number, placement, and wording of its signage. At present, the signs only warn you not to swim and not of the dangers of the man-made lake and the alligators that inhabit it.

All of the beaches are currently closed said Jacquee Wahler, Vice President at Walt Disney World Resort.

We are praying for both Lane and his family in this tragic time of devastating loss.
