We take our history for granted. Our Founding Fathers were rather brilliant in how the declared our independence. The document is written unlike any other in history.

The Declaration wasn’t signed on July 4th, rather it was signed on August 2nd as you can learn in the video below. This gives us the right to celebrate our nation for almost a month!

New Yorkers began to riot when word of the Declaration of Independence reached New York City.

There are words written on the back of the Declaration of Independence. Conspiracy theorists shouldn’t get too excited though as it simply says “Original Declaration of Independence dated 4th July 1776.” It is written upside down.

It is believed that this was written on the back during the Revolutionary War when the document was rolled up and transported.

During World War II, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were secured at Fort Knox. Cavalry and the Secret Service accompanied the documents en route to the secure location.

44 years separated the oldest and youngest signers of the Declaration of Independence. Benjamin Franklin tipped out the scales at 70 years of age. South Carolinian lawyer Edward Rutledge was merely 26.
