Thirty-three lions were rescued from Peru and Columbia and sent to freedom in South Africa in the largest big cat rescue in history.
These cats were starved, mutilated and forced to perform in circuses in Latin America. They lived torturous lives, much like Mufasa the mountain lion we told you about a few months ago. But new legislation started the chain reaction in their new lives.

The lions now live north of Johannesburg at the Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary. Animal Defenders International led the lions from cages and torture in South America to their new life in the bush of Africa.
The lions will obviously have an adjustment period as they get acclimated to life in a more suitable environment, but their days of torture are now behind them.
