You don’t often hear about penguins being a part of a story that blows you away. But there is a first time for everything and the story of a penguin and a man in Brazil who rescued him, is one for the ages.

Joao Pereira de Souza, 71, a retired bricklayer from Brazil, found a South American Magellanic penguin he calls Dindim stranded on the beach back in 2011 covered in oil. De Souza took the bird home, cleaned his feathers, and fed him during the entire time so he would get his strength back. He then returned him to the sea to let him go.

But Dindim would not leave.

He finally left when it was time to migrate but amazingly, this penguin has returned every year to be with de Souza! A marine biologist says this is a very unique story:

“I have never seen anything like this before. I think the penguin believes Joao is part of his family and probably a penguin as well. When he sees him he wags his tail like a dog and honks with delight.”

Watch the video to see this amazing story. Isn’t that something? Have you ever heard of anything like that?
